I ♥ London

Diagon Alley!!!

I went to Diagon Alley this week! It was because we went on a field trip to 18 Folgate St which is near Diagon Alley. 18 Folgate Street is off the Lechister Square Tube stop and is a home that has basically remained untouched since the 18th century. Silk-weavers lived there, and the home has remained untouched with antiques in place because a single family owned the home for over 100 years.

Then Denis Severs, an American, bought the house after graduati
ng from high school for relatively cheap because he had seen movies from that era and loved the time period. He lived in the house until his death without electricity or any modern comforts. During our fieldtrip we were asked to imagine ourselves living there, and envision what life was like back then.

After visiting Folgate St we went to Spidal Market which is a famous market from that area of London and also dates back to the 1800s. There is an antique section, and every Thursday (we happened to be there on a Thursday) there is a giant clothin
g market as well. Dresses, bags, scarves and jewelery are on display in the middle of this plaza which is lined by cute boutiques and nice restaurants. I got a scarf and my
roommate Jackie and I had a filling but relatively inexpensive brunch at this place called Giraffe.

Russell Square (park near British Museum)

Then today I went to the British Museum with Liz and Sheila because we have Fridays off from classes. We saw the actual Rosetta Stone inside the museum today! Here is a picture of it:
